| The company was founded in 1982
as a joint venture between Lucas Industries Plc,
Mr. Mehmet Sakallýođlu and Mr. Nirun Sahingiray.
The production of alternators and starter motors which consisted
of typical Lucas ranges such as A115, A127, M113 (M45) and M127
(M50) started with the assembly of major components imported from
Lucas in the UK.
Following an intensive “localization” program, which was
achieved within a couple of years, the company itself started to
produce almost all major items within its own facilities. During
this localization process, contrary to most other Lucas overseas
factories, the company’s Technical Team stayed 100% loyal to
the Lucas original designs. As a result of this very important
decision, unless otherwise mentioned, all Lucas UK originated
components are 100% interchangeable and therefore all the
original Lucas part numbers have been retained and used as part
of the company’s part numbering system.
Late in the 90’s, following the merger of Lucas and Varity and
the new group’s decision to withdraw from the rotating
electrical business, the Lucas shares in the company were bought
by the Sakallýođlu family who became the majority shareholder
of the company. During this process the use of the “LucasElektrik”
brand was also exclusively granted to the company.
In 1998 the construction of the new factory site was completed.
The modern facilities located in a covered area of 7,500 sq
meters built on 26,500 sq meters of land created further
opportunities for the company and through the Technical
Assistance agreements with Mando Korea (Valeo Korea) and
Mitsubishi Japan, the company achieved its first “passenger car”
OE business with HAOS (Hyundai Turkey) as an addition to its
other OE business with commercial vehicle manufacturers.
Besides OE activities which form about 50% of its turnover, the
company has also become a global supplier of rotating electrical
products through its export customers spread over more than 40
countries worldwide.
Today, believing in its qualified and experienced employees
together with its development, manufacturing and testing
capabilities, Lucas Elektrik A.Ţ. is looking forward to a future
of continuous expansion and growth.
